Does Utah Require a Background Check to purchase a Firearm?
No, Utah does not have a state law that requires a background check prior to the sale of a firearm,
but federal law requires all federally licensed firearm dealers to perform a background check before any sale of a firearm.
Privately sold firearms are not subject to a background check when they are being transferred.
The only exception to it is if the dealer is well aware that the person the firearm being transferred to is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Utah prohibits the sale of any firearm to a person under age 18 unless he or she is accompanied by a parent or guardian
